Cole's Right

Ultimately, Gov. Ryan ought to be remembered more for the good he's done -- which, in our staunchly-held anti-death penalty view, is considerable -- not the bad. It's likely, anyway, that although people will recall that Ryan was convicted, they will not, years from now, remember exactly why.

Saving lives is the bottom line.

Amen brother. People exist in shades of gray, and Ryan was no different. Say what you want about his weakness for the money, the man took what was at the time a position NOBODY, at least no elected official was willing to take, to come out and say clearly, without a lot of hedging and cover your ass stuff, that we are killing innocent people with the death penalty. Bravo.
